The Flow Cytometry Core Facility, headed by Dr Reiner Schulte, provides state-of-the-art flow cytometry service to CIMR scientists. This consists of expert advice for experimental design, individual instrument training, and data analysis. The facility is capable of performing cell sorting for researchers to isolate cell populations needed for further studies.
High speed Influx Cell Sorters (BD Biosciences). The first Influx cell sorter has five lasers at 355nm, 405nm, 488nm, 561nm, and 640nm and is equipped with 14 fluorescence detectors and a small particle detector.
The second Influx cell sorter has four lasers at 405nm, 488nm, 561nm, and 640nm and is equipped with 16 fluorescence detectors and a small particle detector.
Both Influx cell sorters can be used with differenct nozzle sizes (70µm, 86µm, 100µm or 130µm) and are able to separate six cell populations simultaneously.
BD LSRFortessas. Two LSRFortessas (355nm, 405nm, 488nm, 561nm, and 640nm) are able to detect 18 colours and one has the option to operate a high throughput sampler.
The third LSRFortessa (405nm, 488nm, 561nm, and 640nm) is able to detect 16 colours.
LSR II (BD Biosciences). The LSRII (355nm, 488nm, and 640nm) is housed at the Hutchison/MRC Research Centre and allows users to see two UV, five blue and two red fluorescent parameters. A high throughput sampler can be used on this instrument.
Attune NxT (Thermofisher). The Attune NxT (405nm, 488nm, and 561nm) uses acoustic-assisted hydrodynamic focusing and is able to dectect 11 colours. A high throughput autosampler is attached to this instrument.
Accuri C6 (BD Biosciences). The C6 is equipped with a blue (488nm) and a red (640nm) laser and can measure four fluorescence parameters. The C6 CSampler unit supports fully automated acquisition of samples from 48- and 96-well plates or from a 24-tube rack.
FACS Caliburs (BD Biosciences). The two FACS Calibur flow cytometers with 488nm and 635nm lasers allow four colour analyses. A high throughput sampler can be used on both instruments.
Countess Automated Cell Counter (Life Technologies). The Countess is a benchtop automated cell counter designed to measure cell count and viability (live, dead, and total cells) using the standard trypan blue technique.
