The Chi-Wang studentship is a collaboration between CIMR, Jesus College and Cambridge Children’s Research Institute (CCRI). The studentship is supported by a generous philanthropic gift from Amanda Chi and David Wang, and is a unique opportunity to pursue a four-year doctoral degree in biomedical sciences, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of neurological diseases affecting children and young people.
CIMR will host students until completion of the new Children’s Hospital, which will house the CCRI and is due to open in 2030. The CCRI will sit at the heart of the new building, with six specialist centres solely dedicated to improving health outcomes for children and young people.
Director of CIMR, Professor Julian Rayner emphasised the importance of collaborative partnerships in research:
“Much of the research at CIMR is focussed on understanding the molecular mechanisms behind devastating childhood neurological conditions in order to drive the development of much-needed new treatments. The individual who takes up this PhD studentship, made possible by the generosity of Amanda Chi and David Wang, will play a key role in this battle as part of our collaborative and supportive research community. We are honoured to partner with Jesus College and Cambridge Children’s Hospital on this exciting initiative.”
David Rowitch, Professor of Paediatrics, University of Cambridge explains the unique model of CCRI:
“The Cambridge Children’s Hospital is globally unique, embedding a new model of integrated physical and mental healthcare and housing the Cambridge Children’s Research Institute. We are extraordinarily grateful to Amanda Chi and David Wang for endowing this CCRI studentship, which will support training the next generation of leaders in paediatric biomedical science.”
