Cambridge Institute for Medical Research

Over the February half term CIMR, along with the Mitochondrial Biology Unit and for the first time the Institute of Metabolic Science, ran our ISACM work experience programme. We hosted 15 year 12 students, who spent three days gaining lab experience and a final day at St Catharine’s College, our partner in the scheme, where they found out about college life and received admissions advice.

Students carried out a mini project in their lab, as well as touring core facilities and attending seminars. They completed an impressive amount of work over the three days and presented their findings to their peer group, supervisors and admissions tutors from St Catharine’s on the final day. All the students did a fantastic job and it was a real pleasure to host such an enthusiastic group of future scientists and medical professionals.

CIMR Director Prof Julian Rayner, says “This is always one of the highlights of my year… The presentations that the students gave at the end of their visit were really inspirational, you could see how much they got out of the experience”.
