A collaboration between Dr Sam Daly (David Gershlick’s lab) and Prof Lee’s lab in the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry has made it possible to track in three dimensions individual molecules as they move through living cells. Dr Gershlick’s lab work on protein secretion (the movement of proteins from their site of synthesis to their functional site), while Prof Lee’s lab specialises in building tools to study these processes. Dr Daly combined the expertise of both labs to allow researchers to track specific molecules in the crowded environment of cells. The technology has significant implications for research into human health, offering new tools to study conditions such as neurodegenerative and respiratory disease.
