The CIMR Flow Cytometry Core Facility was delighted to host a second-year biomedical student from Anglia Ruskin University Peterborough for a one-week placement in August, offering an introduction to the technologies and expertise that support research across the institute.
During the week, the student gained an overview of flow cytometry and cell sorting, observed how samples are prepared and analysed, and learned about the role of core facilities in supporting researchers. Thanks to Marta Munoz Alegre, she also received an introduction to basic cell culture techniques and the importance of good laboratory practice and experimental design.
As part of the placement, the student visited the flow cytometry facilities at the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre and the CRUK Cambridge Institute, providing a broader perspective on the different instruments, applications, and ways in which flow cytometry supports scientific discovery.
We thank the student for her enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the week and hope the placement has provided valuable insight into both flow cytometry and potential careers in biomedical science.
