Wellcome Early Career Award Holder - Dr. Shannon McKie

CIMR is an ideal place to begin a transition towards research independence, so we are keen to support both clinical and fundamental early-career scientists to apply for personal awards/fellowships from external funders to begin this critical step of their research journey.

  • Early-career researchers interested in applying for fellowships should contact a CIMR PI with whom they are interested in working with and liaise directly with that PI about the development of an application.

  • We are also very interested to hear from prospective applicants to more substantive early-career funding schemes which support not only the lead applicant but also help them to build a small team and are designed to support the grant holder’s transition towards research independence.

  • For these cases, there is a centrally managed process at CIMR to ensure that Institutional support for applicants is focused, structured and coordinated to optimise the chances of success.

We take our responsibility towards early-career researchers seriously committing time and resources to supporting them as they transition to research independence, providing an outstanding research environment, deeply collaborative environment with a strong emphasis on support and mentoring, and access to Continuing Professional Development.
