Cambridge Institute for Medical Research

We have had a great week with a group of sixth-form students taking part in the Gurdon Institute's  ASTP programme. As a widening participation scheme, the programme is targets young people who may have experienced either educational disadvantage or belong to a group that is statistically less likely to progress to higher education. The students, who are all aiming for careers in medicine or biomedical science, spent the week in host labs, carrying out their own mini research project and learning a variety of lab techniques. They also enjoyed tours of our core facilities, seminars from some of our researchers, and ended the week presenting their work to their peer group. We have been so impressed by the enthusiasm, knowledge and skill of the students; it has been a pleasure to host them!
