Cambridge Institute for Medical Research

CIMR has a global reputation for a strong track record of research impact and translation.

Our collective expertise covers fundamental science, clinical knowledge, and success in drug discovery.  We are well-placed in the Cambridge Biomedical Campus to maximise our position at this interface, and the partnerships and collaborations which result from it to drive translation.

Over the past 20 years, our researchers have:

  • authored or co-authored 2,800 original research papers with 186,000 subsequent citations. Some recent publications are listed here.
  • trained over 130 PhD students
  • filed 50 patents
  • founded 5 spin-out companies, 3 of which exited through trade sale to corporates
  • undertaken over 20 major collaborations with industrial partners.

Since its foundation in 1998, 13 of CIMR’s leading scientists were honoured with election as Fellows of the Royal Society – an exceptional number for an institution of our size. The CIMR 20th Anniversary Report from 2018 includes more details about the institute’s history of scientific collaboration and discovery.
