Cambridge Institute for Medical Research

We are delighted that, following a newly-established process for candidates who have been at CIMR for some time and obtain independent funding, Dr Janin Lautenschläger has been formally approved by the Institute Management Committee as a full Principal Investigator at CIMR.

Janin originally joined the Institute in 2018 as a postdoc in the St George-Hyslop lab. Since then she has secured a highly competitive Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship to study the mechanisms of alpha synuclein phase transition and its role in both neuronal health and disease. She has also secured additional funding from the Royal Society, Leverhulme Trust and others, while developing her research independence further and recently has submitted her first senior author paper which is currently under review. Her work aligns with our focus on organellar biology and neurological disease, and she already actively collaborates with multiple other CIMR PIs.

Janin is also a great advocate for CIMR through her involvement with public engagement and passion for communicating complex science to non-specialist audiences.
